Calvus Cichlid
Altolamprologus calvus
The 'Armored Blade' of Lake Tanganyika (15 cm / 6 inches). A phenomenally elegant predator with a body flattened laterally to the thickness of a few stacked coins. This terrifyingly sleek shape allows it to slip effortlessly into the tightest rock crevices to inhale sleeping baby fish. Covered in brilliant white 'pearl' scales, it is a magnificent, painfully slow-growing masterpiece of evolution.

- Compatibility & tankmates
- Altolamprologus calvus is highly compatible with other medium-sized cichlids from Lake Tanganyika, such as Julidochromis, Neolamprologus, and Cyprichromis. However, they should not be housed with very small fish, dwarf shrimp, or tiny fry, which they will readily view as prey. Extremely aggressive cichlids should also be avoided, as they can stress the relatively peaceful and slow-moving Calvus. Providing distinct territories with plenty of rocks will ensure peaceful coexistence among different species.
