Species description
Geographical Origin and Habitat:
Native to Southeast Asia, including Thailand, Laos, and Vietnam. Often found growing in limestone-rich riverbeds.
Taxonomy & Genetics:
Part of the Araceae family, genus Cryptocoryne. The variety balansae is the most popular form in the hobby.
Physical Structure:
Rosette-growing plant producing very long, narrow, ribbon-like leaves with undulated edges.
Color & Texture:
Light green to olive-bronze color. Displays a distinct hammered or bullate leaf texture under good light.
Care, breeding and tankmates
Lighting & CO2:
Requires moderate lighting. CO2 is not mandatory but helps achieve a denser look and faster growth.
Nutrition & Substrate:
Heavy root feeder. A nutrient-rich substrate or regular root tab additions are essential.

Prefers neutral to alkaline water and appreciates calcium-rich conditions.
