Species description
Geographical Origin and Habitat: Native to tropical wetlands of Asia and Africa. Inhabits slow-moving rivers, marshes, canals, and rice paddies.
Taxonomy & Genetics: Member of the family Plantaginaceae, genus Limnophila. Visually similar to Limnophila sessiliflora.
Physical Structure: Erect, branched stems bearing whorled leaves that are finely divided into thread-like segments, giving it a feathery appearance.
Color & Texture: Bright, light green foliage. Under high light intensity, the crown of the stems can turn reddish-bronze.
Care, breeding and tankmates
Lighting & CO2: Thrives under medium to high light. Weak light leads to leggy growth with long internodes. CO2 is not required but improves thickness.
Nutrition & Substrate: Appreciates a nutrient-dense substrate. Demands regular dosing of iron to prevent leaf chlorosis (pale/yellow leaves).
Water Chemistry: Prefers pH between 6.0 and 7.5, and low to moderate water hardness. Keep temperature stable between 22°C and 28°C.
Space Management & Placement: Exclusively suited as a background plant. Plant individual stems with space between them to allow light penetration.
Pruning: Grows very rapidly. Cut the tops at desired height and replant the cuttings to propagate and form dense bushes.
Risks & Diseases: Prone to iron deficiency. Can be easily damaged by herbivorous fish or extreme water currents that break the soft stems.
