Species description
Geographic Origin and Biotope: Western Atlantic Ocean: from Florida and the Gulf of Mexico to Belize and Honduras. Inhabits shallow coral reef structures.
Taxonomy and Morphology: Member of the Gobiidae family. Elongated body with pelvic fins fused into a cup-like suction organ for anchoring. Grows to 5 cm (2 inches).
Social Behavior: Peaceful cleaner fish. Sets up cleaning stations on prominent rocks. Larger fish visit these stations to have ectoparasites and dead skin removed.
Coloration and Sexual Dimorphism: Dark black body with a striking neon-blue stripe running from the snout, through the eye, to the tail. No sexual dimorphism.
Care, breeding and tankmates
Aquarium Setup: Minimum aquarium size of 50 liters (13 gallons). Provide live rocks with small holes and empty shells. Secure lid is recommended.
Diet and Feeding: Carnivorous cleaner. Feeds on skin parasites. Easily accepts finely chopped frozen foods (mysis, brine shrimp, cyclops) and micro pellets in captivity.
Water Quality: Keep standard marine parameters stable: temperature 22-27°C (72-81°F), pH 8.1-8.4, specific gravity 1.020-1.025, and KH 8-12.
Compatibility and Tankmates: Exceptionally peaceful. Larger tankmates recognize its cleaning services and rarely prey on it, but avoid large opportunistic predators. 100% reef safe.
Aquarium Reproduction: Spawns readily in home aquaria inside small tubes or shells. Feeding the larvae requires live rotifers.
Risks and Diseases: Very hardy. Does not require host fish to survive, as it easily adapts to standard aquarium diets.

- Reproduction
- Depone uova adesive all'interno di conchiglie o piccoli fori.
