Species description
Geographical Origin and Habitat: Widely distributed in the Indo-Pacific, inhabiting coral reefs, sand slopes, and rocky flats up to 40 meters deep.
Taxonomy: Classified within the Diogenidae family. It features a robust body and hairy legs designed to carry heavy shells.
Social Behavior: Solitary and opportunistic. It actively gathers sea anemones (*Calliactis*) and transfers them onto its shell for defense against octopuses.
Coloration and Sexual Dimorphism: Body is mottled brown with greenish and white tones. The anemones on its shell are typically pink or gray. No sexual dimorphism.
Care, breeding and tankmates
Tank Setup: Needs a tank of at least 40 gallons with deep sand and secure rockwork. They are strong and may move small rocks.
Diet and Feeding: Voracious omnivore. It eats raw seafood, pellets, and detritus. It will actively hunt snails if hungry or in search of shells.
Water Quality: Requires stable marine parameters: pH 8.1-8.4, temperature 22-28°C, salinity 1.023-1.025, and good filtration.
Compatibility and Tankmates: Not reef safe. It may knock over corals or prey on snails. Keep with medium to large robust fish.
Aquarium Breeding: Mating occurs but rearing the pelagic larvae is not feasible in standard home aquarium environments.
Risks and Diseases: Stress-induced loss of its symbiotic anemones. Ensure a selection of larger empty shells is always available.

- Richiede calcio e magnesio stabili per supportare l'indurimento dell'esoscheletro.
- Molting
