Description

Geographic Origin and Biotope: Originating from the fertile floodplains of Thailand, Malaysia, Sumatra and Borneo. Its kingdom is the turbid, very slow or stagnant waters: vast swamp forests, large coastal river estuaries with slow flow and acidic black lakes shaded by immense canopies of tropical trees. Thrives in the inextricable tangle of sweet mangrove roots and submerged reeds amazing sadistic phobic blind dark.

Taxonomy and Morphology: Universally admired as the aesthetic apex of labyrinth fishes (Trichogaster leerii, formerly Trichopodus leerii). A fish of generous size (12-13 cm / 5 inches), with the classic compressed rhomboid body shape and lung labyrinth. Care and observations

Tank Setup: Demands "The Relaxing and Darkened Swamp" (Tank min. 100-120 cm / 40-48 in for a harem/group). The furnishings play a key psychological role: in bright or bare tanks it will lose all color and hide frightened amazing magic tender Dutch crazy. Needs a dark bottom, lots of interwoven wood and a surface barrier of FLOATING PLANTS and Catappa leaves to darken the water amazing dark fetid amazing lethargy romantic hideouts.
