Species description
Geographical Origin and Habitat: Widely distributed across the Indo-Pacific from East Africa to Samoa. Found in tidal mudflats and mangrove zones.
Taxonomy and Morphology: Member of the family Gobiidae. Elongated body, blunt head, and highly mobile pectoral fins used to climb. Reaches 12 cm.
Social Behavior: Intolerant of other males. They signal dominance by raising their dorsal fins and chasing intruders.
Coloration and Sexual Dimorphism: Grey-brown with fine silvery vertical stripes and shiny flecks on the flanks. No reliable external dimorphism.
Care, breeding and tankmates
Aquarium Setup: PALUDARIUM with gentle sandy slopes, rocks, and mangroves. Secure cover glass is absolutely essential.
Diet and Feeding: Insectivore. Feed live insects, small crickets, and frozen foods on the dry land portions.
Water Quality: Stable brackish water (1.006-1.012 SG). Warm and humid air temperature must match the water temperature.
Compatibility and Cohabitation: Best kept as a single specimen. Avoid housing with any slow-moving bottom dwellers.
Aquarium Breeding: Not achieved in captivity due to lack of deep vertical mud structures required for breeding.
Risks and Diseases: Skin and eye infections can occur if water parameters are poor. Active climbers and jumpers.
