Coloration and Sexual Dimorphism: Silvery-grey body with a golden luster, often marked with dark mottling. No visible dimorphism.
Care, breeding and tankmates
Aquarium Setup: Very large tank with soft sand to prevent barbel damage. Minimal rocks, prioritizing free benthic swimming space.
Diet and Feeding: Carnivorous. Feed whole krill, chopped mussels, prawns, and sinking pellets. Consumes large amounts of food.
Water Quality: High salinity brackish (SG 1.010+) or marine conditions are required for adults. Powerful biological filtration is essential.
Compatibility and Cohabitation: Ideal with large brackish fish.
Spines are venomous:; handle with care. Small fish will be eaten.
Aquarium Breeding: Paternal mouthbrooder. Males hold eggs in their mouth. Captive spawning has not been documented in aquaria.
