Narrow-lined Puffer

Geographical Origin and Habitat: Indo-West Pacific. Found in shallow sandy lagoons, estuaries, and sheltered reef flats near seagrass beds.

Taxonomy and Morphology: Belongs to the family Tetraodontidae. Features a scaleless, rounded body with four fused teeth forming a beak. Grows to 30 cm.

Social Behavior: Intelligent and curious, showing high interaction. Solitary and territorial towards other pufferfish.

Coloration and Sexual Dimorphism: Silvery-gray to yellow-brown body covered in thin, dark longitudinal stripes. No visible sexual dimorphism.

Aquarium Setup: Minimum aquarium size of 500 liters (130 gallons) with sandy substrate and firmly anchored rockwork.

Diet and Feeding: Carnivorous. Must be fed hard-shelled foods (clams, mussels, krill, unshelled shrimp, crabs) to prevent tooth overgrowth.

Water Quality: Demands heavy skimming and strong filtration due to the high organic load generated by its feeding habits.

Compatibility and Cohabitation: Best for large fish-only systems.

Not reef safe:; will readily eat crabs, snails, urchins, and corals.

Aquarium Breeding: Has not been successfully achieved in home aquariums.

Risks and Diseases: Highly toxic (tetrodotoxin). Handle with caution; be mindful of its strong biting capabilities.
