Species description

Geographical Origin and Habitat: Indo-Pacific, from East Africa to Tuamotu. Found in deep lagoons and outer slopes.

Taxonomy and Morphology: Belongs to the family Chaetodontidae. Compressed body with a long filament on the dorsal fin. Grows to 24 cm.

Social Behavior: Peaceful and social, observed in pairs or small groups. Requires plenty of swimming space.

Coloration and Sexual Dimorphism: Body patterned with black/white vertical bands, dark face mask, and yellow fins. No dimorphism.

Care, breeding and tankmates

Aquarium Setup: Minimum of 400 liters (100 gallons) with open swimming zones and stable rockwork.

Diet and Feeding: Omnivorous. Feeds on small invertebrates, algae, and coral polyps. Offer frozen foods and pellets.

Water Quality: Requires stable marine conditions: specific gravity 1.020-1.025, efficient filtration, and moderate flow.

Compatibility and Cohabitation: Compatible with peaceful reef fish.

Not reef safe:; may consume corals.

Aquarium Breeding: Undocumented in home aquariums; pelagic spawners in nature.

Risks and Diseases: Susceptible to marine parasites if stressed. Needs high water quality and peaceful environment.
