Species description
Geographical Origin and Habitat: Indo-Pacific reefs, from the African coast to Hawaii. Inhabits shallow, coral-rich slopes and rocky crevices.
Taxonomy and Morphology: Belongs to the subfamily Canthigasterinae. Small, robust body with a beak-like mouth. Grows to a maximum length of 9 cm.
Social Behavior: Territorial but generally peaceful with unrelated tankmates. May become aggressive toward conspecifics.
Coloration and Sexual Dimorphism: Brownish-orange body covered in a dense network of light blue-green dots. No visible sexual dimorphism.
Care, breeding and tankmates
Aquarium Setup: Minimum tank size of 150 liters (40 gallons) with plenty of live rock to support natural foraging.
Diet and Feeding: Omnivorous with a preference for carnivore items. Provide frozen seafood, mysis, chopped clams, and algae.
Water Quality: Maintain stable water parameters: temperature 23-27°C, pH 8.1-8.4, and low organic nutrients.
Compatibility and Cohabitation: Suitable for community tanks with active, peaceful fish.
Not reef safe:; may nip LPS and snails.
Aquarium Breeding: Captive breeding is not commonly achieved in home aquariums.
Risks and Diseases: Susceptible to marine diseases like ich and velvet. Quarantine and slow acclimation are recommended.
