Species description
Geographical Origin and Habitat: Globally distributed in all tropical and subtropical seas. Found in deep lagoons, outer reef slopes, and open waters near drifting algae.
Taxonomy and Morphology: Belongs to the family Monacanthidae. Features an elongated, compressed body and a brush-like tail. Grows up to 110 cm.
Social Behavior: Solitary, slow-moving species that often hovers vertically. Non-aggressive but too large for standard home setups.
Coloration and Sexual Dimorphism: Grayish-brown background covered in striking electric blue lines and spots, along with small black dots. No sexual dimorphism.
Care, breeding and tankmates
Aquarium Setup: Needs a massive public or private aquarium of at least 1200 liters (300 gallons) with open water for swimming.
Diet and Feeding: Omnivorous. Feeds on algae, seagrass, hydrozoans, anemones, jellyfish, and small benthos. Accepts large pellets and frozen foods.
Water Quality: Demands high-capacity filtration to handle biological waste, stable salinity, and well-oxygenated water.
Compatibility and Cohabitation: Suitable only for large fish-only systems with big tangs or groupers.

Aquarium Breeding: Not recorded in domestic aquariums due to size limitations.
Risks and Diseases: High risk of skin lesions from bumping into aquarium glass. Requires high water quality to prevent infections.
