Species description
Geographical Origin and Habitat: Western Pacific, ranging from the Philippines to Northern Australia. Inhabits shallow coastal reefs rich in soft corals and sponges.
Taxonomy and Morphology: Belongs to the family Monacanthidae. Features a small, compressed body with tiny skin filaments for camouflage. Grows to 7 cm.
Social Behavior: Highly peaceful and slow-moving, hovering near soft corals. Excellent candidate for smaller, quiet tanks.
Coloration and Sexual Dimorphism: Mottled brown and green with radial white lines. Adaptable camouflage. No visible sexual dimorphism.
Care, breeding and tankmates
Aquarium Setup: Minimum aquarium size of 100 liters (25 gallons) with live rock and soft corals (like *Nephthea*).
Diet and Feeding: Omnivorous. Feeds on micro-invertebrates, algae, and coral polyps. Accepts frozen mysis, brine shrimp, and marine flakes.
Water Quality: Demands stable marine conditions: temperature 23-27°C, pH 8.1-8.4, and zero ammonia or nitrite.
Compatibility and Cohabitation: Keep with small, non-aggressive species.
Reef safe with caution:; useful against Aiptasia but may nip corals.
Aquarium Breeding: Rare in domestic reef systems; pairs form easily.
Risks and Diseases: Vulnerable to food competition. Pipette target feeding is highly recommended.
