Species description
Geographical Origin and Habitat: Native to Brazil. Found in clear, sunlit tropical streams growing in sandy substrates.
Taxonomy & Genetics: Belonging to the family Plantaginaceae, genus Bacopa. Unusual leaf morphology that mimics Myriophyllum species.
Physical Structure: Features very thin, delicate, and brittle stems. Needle-like leaves are arranged in dense whorls along the stem.
Color & Texture: Bright, light-green foliage. The needle-thin leaves create an extremely fine, soft texture in the aquascape.
Care, breeding and tankmates
Lighting & CO2: Demands high-intensity lighting. Robust CO2 injection is mandatory to prevent stem decay and support healthy growth.
Nutrition & Substrate: Prefers fine sand mixed with nutrients. Requires stable, balanced dosing of liquid macro and micro-nutrients.
Water Chemistry: Thrives in soft, slightly acidic water. Maintain pH at 6.0-7.5 and water temperature in the range of 20-30 °C.
Space Management & Placement: Best suited for the midground or foreground. Plant away from high filter outlets as the stems are highly fragile.
Pruning: Trim carefully using sharp scissors to prevent crushing the delicate stems. Replant top cuttings to increase density.
Risks & Diseases: Highly vulnerable to thread algae, which can easily choke the fine foliage. Requires pristine water and low organic waste.
