Species description
Geographical Origin and Habitat: Native to Europe, where it is found in cool, stagnant or slow-moving waters like ditches, ponds, and marshes. It thrives in clean, well-lit environments.
Taxonomy & Genetics: Member of the Primulaceae family. It develops upright stems with deeply pinnatifid (comb-like) leaves arranged in alternating whorls.
Physical Structure: Flexible submerged stems. Under emersed conditions, it produces beautiful pale violet or white flowers arranged in tiered whorls on erect stalks.
Color & Texture: The submerged leaves are bright light green and finely divided, providing a soft, feather-like texture in the water.
Care, breeding and tankmates
Lighting & CO2: High light demand. Sufficient light is necessary to prevent leggy growth. CO2 addition is highly recommended to promote compact and healthy foliage.
Nutrition & Substrate: Prefers a fine, moderately fertile substrate. Regular liquid dosing of trace elements and iron is required to maintain the bright green coloration.
Water Chemistry: Demands cool water. Optimal temperature range is 10-24°C; it struggles and decays at temperatures consistently above 25°C. pH 6.0-7.2.
Space Management & Placement: Ideal for the midground. Plant the stems in small groups, leaving enough space between them to prevent the lower leaves from shedding.
Pruning: Trim the top shoots regularly to encourage side branching and create a bushy appearance. Remove lower stem parts if they blacken due to shading.
Risks & Diseases: Decay of leaves and stems if kept in warm water (e.g. during summer heatwaves) or in low light. Needs stable, cool environments.
