Species description

Geographical Origin and Habitat: Native to the tropical waters of the Western Pacific Ocean, including Indonesia, the Philippines, Ryukyu Islands, and Vanuatu. Inhabits outer reef slopes up to 60 meters deep.

Taxonomy and Morphology: Member of the family Pomacentridae. Oval and compressed body. Reaches a maximum standard length of 5 cm. Smaller and more slender than many damselfishes.

Social Behavior: Very peaceful, shoaling species. Lives in groups closely associated with branching Acropora corals, which serve as immediate shelter from predators.

Coloration and Sexual Dimorphism: Yellow-orange body coloration. Features a prominent vertical black bar across the caudal peduncle, followed by a white tail. No obvious dimorphism.

Care, breeding and tankmates

Aquarium Setup: Requires a minimum tank size of 80 liters with open swimming space and live rock structures for hiding and resting.

Diet and Feeding: Omnivorous. Feeds on zooplankton in the wild. Accepts high-quality small flakes, pellets, frozen daphnia, cyclops, and brine shrimp.

Water Quality: Reef parameters: stable temperature 24-28 °C, pH 8.1-8.4, and salinity 1.020-1.025 with strong water movement to mimic reef currents.

Compatibility and Cohabitation: Highly compatible with peaceful reef fish. Must be kept in a group of at least 6 individuals to maintain natural schooling behavior and reduce stress.

Aquarium Breeding: Oviparous. Spawns adhesive eggs on rocky surfaces or crevices. The male guards the nest and fans the clutch until hatching occurs.

Risks and Diseases: Generally hardy but sensitive to organic waste build-up and high nitrates. Regular water changes and good filtration are necessary.
