Taxonomy and Morphology: Member of the Pomacanthidae family. Has a highly compressed body and butterflyfish-like appearance. Grows to a maximum length of 18 cm.

Social Behavior: Shy and reclusive initially. Often found singly or in small groups. Territorial towards conspecifics and similar-looking species.

Care, breeding and tankmates

Aquarium Setup: Minimum tank size of 300 liters with established live rock for hiding places and natural foraging.

Diet and Feeding: Omnivore. Feeds on algae, sponges, and tunicates. Feed frozen mysis, enriched brine shrimp, spirulina, and sponge-based foods multiple times daily.

Water Quality: Stable tropical parameters. Maintain temperature at 23-28°C, pH 8.1-8.4, and salinity at SG 1.020-1.025. Good filtration is necessary.

Compatibility and Cohabitation: Avoid aggressive tankmates that could prevent it from feeding. May nip at large polyp stony (LPS) corals, soft corals, and clam mantles.

Aquarium Breeding: Very difficult. No documented successful breeding attempts in private aquariums.

Risks and Diseases: Can be a difficult feeder when first imported. Susceptible to Cryptocaryon and intestinal parasites.
