Species description
Geographical Origin and Habitat: Indo-West Pacific, primarily from northern Australia up to Indonesia and Taiwan. Found on coastal reefs and soft-bottom areas with rocky outcrops at 5 to 20 meters.
Taxonomy and Morphology: Member of the Pomacanthidae family. Features an oval-shaped, robust body. Grows to a maximum length of 25 cm.
Social Behavior: Often found in pairs or small groups in the wild. Shows territoriality toward other angelfish but is generally peaceful toward unrelated species.
Coloration and Sexual Dimorphism: Body is covered with a fine pattern of wavy blue and yellow lines. Features a broad yellow band behind the head and a yellow tail. Males typically exhibit a more pronounced blue color pattern on the face and tail.
Care, breeding and tankmates
Aquarium Setup: A minimum tank size of 500 liters is required, containing stable rockwork to create caves and swimming pathways.
Diet and Feeding: Provide a varied diet of frozen foods (mysis, krill), marine algae (nori), and premium pellets formulated with sponge extracts. Feed 3 times daily.
Water Quality: Standard tropical marine parameters. Keep temperature at 23-28°C, pH 8.1-8.4, and salinity at SG 1.020-1.025. Robust filtration is essential.
Compatibility and Cohabitation: Keep with active and moderately bold tankmates like tangs and wrasses. May nip at large polyp stony (LPS) corals and soft corals.
Aquarium Breeding: Rare in captivity. Broadcast spawners; requires complex setups and large water volumes to trigger spawning.
Risks and Diseases: Susceptible to common marine parasites. A quarantine period is highly recommended before introduction.
