Tiger Endler Hybrid Guppy

Poecilia reticulata x wingei

The Tiger Endler is a micro-demon of the aquarium. Created by crossing the peaceful Endler with the Guppy, it possesses infinite energy and crazy metabolism. It is virtually indestructible and colored like a tiger-striped highlighter. But this strength has a downside: it mates with unstoppable violence and frequency. A single male in the tank will obsessively chase any livebearer female, irrevocably polluting the genetic purity of the entire aquarium.

Description

Geographic Origin and Biotope: Commercial incubator (No natural origin). It is the captive cross between the Guppy (P. reticulata) and the pure Campoma Endler (P. wingei), generated to obtain the neon colors of the endler with the sizes of the guppy.

Taxonomy and Morphology: Endler Hybrid Guppy / Class K Endler (Poecilia reticulata x wingei). The classic "Fake Endler" sold in stores. Body slightly larger and stockier than the original Endler, but much more agile than the large-tailed Guppy.

Social Behavior: Torpid and chaotic. Males furiously chase females 24/7. This hybrid inherits the inexhaustible energy of the wingei but in a heavier body; they constantly graze the bottoms and then dart to the water surface.

Coloration and Sexual Dimorphism: Tiger, Japan Blue, Paradise. The combinations are endless. They often feature an orange chest and black neon spots. Male fins are often double sword or round (lower swords). Females are identical to large gray female guppies.

Care and observations

Aquarium Setup: Mini aquarium (40-60 cm / 16-24 inches) densely planted. Any layout will do as long as the water is slightly hard. If you want to save the puppies (which they will produce by the thousands), use riccia fluitans or floating guppy-grass (Najas).

Diet and Feeding: They eat algae, bacterial films and any flake food. Micro-granules and enriched brine shrimp will sensationally accentuate the color flashes of the hybrid males.

Water Quality: The King of Resistance. Compared to the Hyper-selected Cobra or Dumbo, the Endler Hybrid enjoys hybrid vigor (Heterosis). Survives swings, nitrates and the owner's inexperience in a formidable way (GH 10-25).

Compatibility and Tankmates: Wildcard fish. Does very well with small characins (Neon Tetras), Rasboras and bottom fish. Avoid medium-sized cichlids (adult Ramirezi or Angelfish) which would swallow them without hesitation.

Aquarium Reproduction: Self-sustaining Colony. Mothers give birth continuously. Unlike large Guppies, these hybrids show less cannibalism towards the puppies (wingei legacy), allowing the colony to saturate the tank quickly.

Risks and Diseases: Hobbyist Genetic Pollution. Commercial hybridization has almost destroyed the pure lines of Poecilia wingei in captivity. Never pass off/sell hybrid puppies to other enthusiasts as "Pure Endlers" (Class N), as you would compromise the jealously bred wild strains.
