Species description

Geographical Origin and Habitat: Endemic to the island of Borneo, Indonesia. Grows as a rheophyte on rocks and wood in fast-flowing rainforest streams.

Taxonomy & Genetics: Belonging to the genus Bucephalandra within the Araceae family. A miniature species with tough, leathery leaves.

Physical Structure: Consists of a creeping, branching rhizome producing tiny, oval to lanceolate leaves measuring 1-2 cm on short stems.

Color & Texture: Dark green to blue-green foliage with a metallic sheen, covered in tiny silvery dots (stomata) on the upper leaf surface.

Care, breeding and tankmates

Lighting & CO2: Thrives under low to medium light. CO2 injection is not mandatory but highly beneficial for promoting faster, denser growth.

Nutrition & Substrate: Epiphytic nature means it should not be planted in soil. Requires regular liquid column fertilization to supply essential micro-nutrients.

Water Chemistry: Highly adaptable, tolerates pH 5.0-8.0, and soft to moderately hard water. Temperature should range between 20 and 28 °C.

Space Management & Placement: Best placed in the foreground. Must be attached to rocks or driftwood using glue or thread; do not bury the root system.

Pruning: Trim older or damaged leaves to encourage new shoots from the rhizome. Propagated by cutting the rhizome into pieces.

Risks & Diseases: Burying the rhizome in substrate leads to rot and death. Slow growth makes it susceptible to green spot algae under high light.
