Lighting & CO2: It is an extremely adaptable powerhouse. It will happily survive and grow strictly vertically under low-intensity lighting. However, to force the plant to exhibit its signature cascading, creeping behavior and form dense, round-leaved bushes, extreme high-intensity LED lighting is mandatory. Pressurized CO2 injection is not required for survival, but it is heavily utilized by professional aquascapers to drastically accelerate its growth and force the round leaves to grow larger and pack more densely along the stem.
Nutrition & Substrate: This variant is an aggressive, opportunistic feeder. To support the heavy, fleshy stems and cascading growth, it MUST be planted in a premium, nutrient-dense aquasoil heavily fortified with iron root tabs. While it can survive in inert sand, it will grow leggy and vertical. Because it arches and creeps, it frequently sends out tiny white adventitious roots from every leaf node, aggressively pulling heavy macronutrients directly from the aquasoil to fuel its rapid expansion.
Water Chemistry: It is virtually indestructible, having inherited the absolute bulletproof hardiness of wild Bacopa. It thrives effortlessly in standard tropical temperatures (22-28°C) but is completely comfortable in cold-water setups. It ignores chaotic, wild fluctuations in pH, severe ammonia spikes, or extreme water hardness. It easily survives in high-end reverse osmosis (RO) setups or liquid-rock tap water. It is an elite, flawless detailing plant that is completely beginner-friendly.
Space Management & Placement: Because of its unique, round-leaved creeping habit, it is the ultimate cascading midground plant. It should be wedged into crevices high up on sprawling driftwood or massive rocks. The heavy, coin-like leaves will force the stems to arch gracefully and cascade down over the hardscape like a green waterfall. Alternatively, planted in the foreground under intense light, it will creep outward to form a highly unique, chunky, bright green carpet of round leaves.
Pruning: Pruning is simple but necessary to maintain the shape of the cascade. Use sharp curved scissors to snip the thick stems exactly where you want the bush to branch. The rooted section will rapidly push out two new lateral shoots. Take the severed tops and instantly replant them directly into the aquasoil or wedge them into new cracks in the driftwood. If the lower stems become bare due to self-shading, simply uproot, discard the ugly bottoms, and replant the pristine tops.
Risks & Diseases: It is completely immune to biological diseases or melting. The primary risk is extreme self-shading. Because the perfectly round leaves are so broad and fleshy, they cast massive shadows on the stems below them. If the cascading bush becomes too dense, the buried stems will be completely starved of light, intentionally drop all their leaves, and rot away from the substrate. Routine thinning of the top canopy is required to allow light to penetrate the entire structure.
