Species description
Geographical Origin and Habitat: Native to the eastern Pacific Ocean, ranging from California to Mexico, inhabiting cool, rocky crevices and tide pools.
Taxonomy: Classified within the Lysmatidae family. It features a translucent body with clear segments and robust walking legs.
Social Behavior: Peaceful and gregarious. Often found in large groups hiding together inside rocky caves during the day to avoid fish predators.
Coloration and Sexual Dimorphism: Displaying a translucent orange-red body color striped with dark red bands. They are simultaneous hermaphrodites.
Care, breeding and tankmates
Tank Setup: Best housed in a cold-water or subtropical marine aquarium of at least 15 gallons with plenty of rocky cover.
Diet and Feeding: Opportunistic omnivore. Known to consume pest Aiptasia anemones. It also feeds on uneaten fish food, flakes, and frozen foods.
Water Quality: Prefers cooler subtropical temperatures (15-22°C), stable marine pH (8.1-8.4), salinity 1.024-1.026, and a well-oxygenated environment.
Compatibility and Tankmates: Safe with corals and peaceful fish. Avoid keeping with warm-water tropical predators or fish that eat small crustaceans.
Aquarium Breeding: Mating is common, producing batches of eggs carried by the adults. Rearing larvae requires isolated tanks with specialized food.
Risks and Diseases: Heat stress is a major risk in typical tropical reef tanks (above 24°C). Highly sensitive to copper treatments and salinity shock.

- Compatibility & tankmates
- Pacifico in acquario. Utile per il controllo delle aiptasie, ma preferisce temperature inferiori.
