Species description

Geographical Origin and Habitat: Native to Peru, primarily within the Ucayali River basin. Inhabits slow-flowing tributaries and shallow margins with sandy bottoms covered in organic debris.

Taxonomy and Morphology: Belongs to the Callichthyidae family. Distinctly recognized by its longer, narrower head profile compared to standard Corydoras species.

Social Behavior: Highly social schooling species. A minimum group of 6 is required to display their natural community behaviors and ensure comfort.

Coloration and Sexual Dimorphism: Silvery-bronze body with metallic green iridescence on the gills and body plates. Females are rounder and larger when viewed from above.

Care, breeding and tankmates

Aquarium Setup: Fine sand substrate is mandatory to prevent abrasion of their delicate barbels. Provide cover using driftwood roots and broad-leaved plants.

Diet and Feeding: Omnivorous. Sinks to the bottom for food. Give sinking tablets, wafers, and frozen treats like bloodworms and brine shrimp.

Water Quality: Demands clean, well-oxygenated water. Keep pH between 6.0-7.2 and avoid high water temperatures.

Compatibility and Cohabitation: Excellent community tank inhabitant. Suitable with tetras, rasboras, and dwarf cichlids.

Aquarium Breeding: Oviparous. Spawning is triggered by cool water changes. Eggs are deposited on glass panes or plant leaves.

Risks and Diseases: Prone to barbel erosion if kept on rough gravel or in unsanitary conditions. Highly sensitive to copper treatments.
