Species description
Geographical Origin and Habitat: Endemic to the humid low- and mid-elevation rainforests of the Peruvian Andes, specifically in the San Martín region. It is a terrestrial species that thrives in wet leaf litter, ferns, and forest debris near small streams.
Taxonomy and Genetics: A member of the Dendrobatidae family, commonly known as the Sky-blue Poison Frog. Previously classified under the genera Ameerega and Cryptophyllobates, it is distinguished by its unique morphology and prolonged trilling call.
Behavior and Habits: Diurnal, bold, and highly active. Males are extremely vocal, defending their territory with a continuous metallic trilling sound to attract females. Males display active parental care, carrying tadpoles on their backs to water-filled plant axils.
Morphology: A small species reaching 2.5-3 cm in length. Mature females are noticeably rounder and wider than males. Males are slimmer and possess slightly elongated digits on their front feet.
