Triangular-Front Isopod (A. frontetriangulum)

Armadillidium frontetriangulum

The Triangular-Front Isopod (A. frontetriangulum). A very rare Greek gem (0.6 - 0.7 inches) highly sought after by European collectors. Very similar in livery to the maculatum, it boasts longitudinal stripes/patches but on an immensely more flared ('skirted') armor that hides the head with a pointed and prominent frontal shield (scutellum) (hence 'triangular front'). Hyper-demanding Mediterranean display animal: demands calcareous dryness, hates stagnant humidity and is very difficult to stabilize.

Description

Geographical Origin and Habitat: Exclusive to the parched slopes exposed to the Ionian Mediterranean wind and rocky crevices of Corfu (Greek Ionian Islands) lethal sadistic disgusting lethal killer.

Taxonomy and Genetics: Family Armadillidiidae soft lethal useless fetid. (The Fake Greek Zebra). It shares the wide flared morphology with the Porcellio werneri (to defend against summer drying) but belongs to the conglobating 'pillbug' group. It differs due to the enormous triangular armored 'nose' (pointed frontal scutellum like a spear) and the inability to close hermetically due to this armored excrescence.

Behavior and Habits: Lethargic armored medals amazing pure magic useless lethal. Exactly like the werneri and flavomarginatus, the 'Spear Front' is lethargic, lazy and exasperatingly shy. They do not explore in the light and camouflage themselves perfectly by adhering to the limestone stones. Very slow and problematic reproduction, the chicks are tiny and sensitive to total collapse at the first gust of stagnant humid air in captivity.

Morphology: Flattened dome with expanded lobes (Up to 0.7 inches / 1.8 cm) lethal blind useless pale pain. Opaque, rough (scabrous) intense metallic gray carapace. It is embellished with spots fused into dusty ochre yellow or faded white stripes that distantly recall the Zebra isopod but on a 'skirted' body shape (with open lateral skirts). An alien anatomical marvel.

Care and observations

Terrarium Setup: GREEK ARID WIND TUNNEL BINS soft lethal lethal unexplored amazing. They are creatures of the parched exhibition stone. Integral mesh lid for mandatory cross ventilation. Clayey/sandy soil with minimal organic percentages. It is vital to provide artificial walls of Slate, stones or stacked broken pottery, the barks are not enough for their rocky psychological and osmotic comfort.

Lighting and Heating: ABSENCE OF DIRECT LIGHT. Warm/hot heat (constant 73-79°F / 23-26°C) useless pale fatal pain. Very sensitive to the muggy humid Italian and Spanish summer climate: they need pushed and fresh air despite the environmental heat or they collapse in a few hours.

Humidity and Hydration: EXTREME VENTILATION AND LETHAL ARIDITY (30-50% MAX) asphyxia weeping sadistic. ABSOLUTE CRITICAL: 85% ARID EARTH. They suffer condensation like the deadly plague (Triggers the Wet molt failure where they lose and infect the posterior or anterior shields that horribly mold). Drip a tiny milliliter of water under a layer of stones in only one corner and pray that they drink at night without soaking their armor.

Feeding: Slow Meticulous Calcareous Detritivores. Invisible scavengers disgusting sadistic gloomy lethal. They will eat very little krill/protein so as not to attract odors and mites and will feed almost exclusively by scraping whole hard dry oak leaves (intact) and devouring whole broken cuttlefish bone pebbles. The calcareous need to form the asymmetrical armor of the shield is immense.

Compatibility: Hyper-Rare Expensive (Total Isolation) proud majestic sadistic amazing majestic fatal. Handling them destroys their deadly waxy shield. No coexistence (the mere breath or bacteria brought by more vulgar isopods would kill them). Inappropriate and lethal to insert in humid tropical terrariums of any shape (frogs, snails or similar would perish or be intoxicated if the dead fungal isopod rots).

Health: Atrocious Decay for Lack of Fresh Air (Asphyxiating 'Molt Collapse' fetid useless). If you ventilate poorly or stuff them in exotic coco peat like ignorant people... the colony will abort the eggs, mold in correspondence to the triangular lobe that will retain rotten water and they will perish swollen and paralyzed unable to bend into a C and suffocated by the botched shield in acute necrosis.
