Species description

Geographical Origin and Habitat: Tropical areas of Central America, the Caribbean, and southern US. Found in dense shrubbery, banana trees, and under bark.

Taxonomy and Genetics: Family Blaberidae, genus Panchlora. Commonly known as the Green Banana Roach due to its bright adult coloring.

Behavior and Habits: Nocturnal and highly active. Adults are agile flyers and strongly attracted to light. Nymphs are fossorial, spending their time burrowing.

Morphology: Adults are bright green with yellowish borders and reach about 2 cm in length. Nymphs are wingless and dark brown. Females are slightly larger.

Care, breeding and tankmates

Terrarium Setup: A highly secure container with smooth walls (glass/plastic) and a tight gasket lid with fine mesh (minimum 30x20x20 cm). Provide 5 cm of moist soil.

Lighting and Heating: Keep temperatures at 24-29 °C. Breeding rates drop in cooler conditions. Avoid placing near bright sunlight during the day; no UVB needed.

Humidity and Hydration: High humidity (70-85%) is required. Spray with water regularly, but ensure cross-ventilation to prevent mold growth on the substrate.

Feeding and Supplementation: Prefers sweet fruits (bananas, apples, oranges) and vegetable scraps. Provide dry dog food or fish flakes for protein. Remove uneaten food.

Compatibility: Social and prolific. Thrives when kept in dense, single-species colonies.

Health and Common Diseases: Hard to injure, but escape is the main risk as adults climb glass and fly. Keep enclosure lid tightly shut at all times.
