Varanus mertensi

The 'Mertens' Water Monitor'. An incredibly specialized Australian aquatic predator (4 feet). It spends most of its life submerged, hunting fish and frogs with impressive agility. It possesses nostrils placed on top of the snout to breathe while remaining almost completely submerged, like a crocodile. Demands enormous tubs of filtered water.

Description

Geographical Origin and Habitat: Slow water courses, billabongs, coastal swamps and tree-lined rivers of Northern Australia lethal sadistic disgusting lethal killer. Ecosystem severely threatened by the introduction of poisonous cane toads that decimate monitors.
