Species description

Geographical Origin and Habitat:

Native to the southeastern United States. It inhabits pine woods, marshes, agricultural areas, and humid gardens.

Taxonomy and Genetics:

Member of the Hylidae family. A small tree frog species, measuring between 3.0 and 4.0 cm in length.

Behavior and Habits:

Nocturnal and active. Famous for its squirrel-like call, which is frequently heard before rainstorms.

Morphology:

Highly variable coloration, changing from bright green to brownish-gray. Males have a dark throat and call.

Care, breeding and tankmates

Terrarium Setup:

Vertical terrarium of at least 45x45x60 cm. Set up with climbing branches, cork bark, and live foliage (like Pothos).

Lighting and Heating:

Day temp 22-26°C, night temp 18-20°C. Low UVB lighting (2.0) is recommended for bone health.

Humidity and Hydration:

Maintain humidity at 60-80%. Spray once or twice daily. Place a shallow dish of dechlorinated water on the floor.

Feeding and Supplementation:

Feed on small insects (crickets, fruit flies, small mealworms). Dust food with calcium and D3.

Compatibility:

Can be housed in small groups of the same species. Do not keep with larger predatory frogs.

Health and Common Diseases:

Vulnerable to skin infections if substrate becomes waterlogged or if waste accumulates.
