Species description
Geographical Origin and Habitat: Widely distributed in tropical forests of South America, including Bolivia, Brazil, Paraguay, Peru, and Venezuela. Inhabits leaf litter near forest streams.
Taxonomy and Genetics: Member of the Dendrobatidae family, genus Ameerega. Characterized by active terrestrial habits and distinctive longitudinal light stripes.
Behavior and Habits: Diurnal and terrestrial. Actively searches for micro-invertebrates. Males establish territories and call from forest floor debris to attract females.
Morphology: Small frog, measuring between 2.0 and 3.0 cm in length. Dark brown or black body with bright yellow lateral stripes and orange spots on the legs.
Care, breeding and tankmates
Terrarium Setup: Horizontal enclosure of at least 60x40x40 cm, designed as a bioactive terrarium. Use a damp soil substrate covered in leaf litter and live moss.
Lighting and Heating: Keep daytime temperatures between 24°C and 26°C (max 28°C), dropping to 20°C at night. Provide low-intensity UVB lighting for metabolic health.
Humidity and Hydration: Maintain high humidity levels of 75-85% through daily misting. Provide a very shallow water area (only a few millimeters deep).
Feeding and Supplementation: Feed exclusively on live micro-insects like fruit flies, springtails, and pinhead crickets. Dust feeders with calcium and D3 at every meal.
Compatibility: Can be kept in pairs or small groups in well-decorated tanks. Watch for territorial behavior among males.
Health and Common Diseases: Captive-bred frogs lack defensive skin toxins due to diet changes, but handling should still be avoided to protect their delicate skin.

- In natura è velenosa a causa degli alcaloidi cutanei estratti dalla dieta, ma in cattività perde del tutto la tossicità.
- Life stage
- Le uova sono deposte a terra e curate dal maschio, che trasporta successivamente i girini sulla schiena fino a piccole pozze d'acqua.
