Species description
Geographical Origin and Habitat: Native to Southern Africa, including South Africa, Zimbabwe, and Botswana. Inhabits dry, rocky outcrops.
Taxonomy and Genetics: Belongs to the Hormuridae family, genus Hadogenes.
Behavior and Habits: Nocturnal and slow-moving. Specially adapted to wedge itself inside rocky cracks for protection against predators.
Morphology: Features an extremely flattened body and long, narrow pedipalps. Can reach up to 20 cm in length. Males have much longer tails.
Care, breeding and tankmates
Terrarium Setup: Stack flat stones or slate securely to form tight crevices. Use a thin sandy substrate, focus is on rock structures.
Lighting and Heating: Keep daytime temperatures around 26-30°C. Use a side-mounted heat pad. Ensure a cooler area is accessible.
Humidity and Hydration: Arid setup (40-60% humidity). Provide a shallow water dish and lightly mist one corner weekly.
Feeding and Supplementation: Feed crickets, roaches, or mealworms once a week. Remove uneaten prey immediately after feeding.
Compatibility: Strictly solitary. Do not house multiple specimens together due to territorial behaviors.
Health and Common Diseases: Susceptible to mycosis if kept in overly damp enclosures. Ensure excellent air circulation.
