Species description
Geographical Origin and Habitat: Native to tree savannas and forest margins of East Africa. It is strictly arboreal, living in the canopy of tall trees.
Taxonomy and Genetics: Member of the Chamaeleonidae family. One of the largest chameleon species, reaching up to 60.0 cm in total length.
Behavior and Habits: Diurnal and solitary. Sit-and-wait predator that captures large insects and occasionally small birds with its long tongue.
Morphology: Bright green body with yellow, black, and white bands. Possesses a single small rostral horn. Males are larger and have a broader tail base.
Care, breeding and tankmates
Terrarium Setup: Requires a very large, well-ventilated mesh enclosure (minimum 100x60x150 cm). Setup with sturdy climbing branches and dense live foliage.
Lighting and Heating: Ambient day temp 24-26°C, basking spot 32°C. Provide high-quality UVB (5.0 or 10.0) and a night temp drop to 16-18°C.
Humidity and Hydration: Maintain humidity of 60-80%. Mist daily and use a drip system; they rely on drinking water drops from leaves.
Feeding and Supplementation: Diet should consist of large crickets, locusts, and roaches. Dust food with calcium and vitamins regularly.
Compatibility: Strictly solitary. Males will fight aggressively; do not house together.
Health and Common Diseases: Highly susceptible to stress, respiratory infections (if ventilation is poor), and dehydration.
