Geographical Origin and Habitat: Eastern Pacific: from the Gulf of California to Peru. Commonly found in tide pools, rocky shores, and shallow coral reefs at depths from 0 to 10 meters. This species is primarily found in rocky intertidal zones, seeking shelter inside tide pools and under moist stones during low tide periods to avoid dehydration.
Taxonomy: Family Diogenidae, genus Clibanarius. Hermit crab with a soft abdomen protected by a gastropod shell, which it changes as it grows. Grows to 3.0 cm. The body structure is highly asymmetrical, allowing it to fit perfectly within the spiral coils of the gastropod shells it uses for protection against predators.
Social Behavior: Peaceful and social scavenger. Spends its time crawling over rocks and sand searching for algae and organic detritus. In the aquarium, it displays active daytime foraging behavior, climbing over live rocks in search of algal biofilm and organic waste particles.
Coloration and Sexual Dimorphism: The name 'albidigitus' refers to the characteristic white tips of its appendages. Sexes are indistinguishable externally; shell selection is based purely on size. The stark color contrast between the light tips and the darker limbs serves as an excellent signal for intraspecific recognition in their native groups.

Tank Setup: Suitable for small tanks starting from 20.0 liters. Provide stable rockwork and keep a supply of empty shells of various sizes for growth. A substrate composed of fine coral sand and small rubble promotes natural digging and foraging behaviors on the bottom of the marine tank.
Diet and Feeding: Omnivorous scavenger. Constantly consumes nuisance algae, organic waste, and leftover fish food on the substrate. Although it is an excellent scavenger, it appreciates supplemental feeding with sinking algae pellets and finely chopped frozen foods to maintain vigor.
Water Quality: Stable marine chemistry parameters: temperature 20.0-26.0 °C, pH 8.1-8.4, specific gravity 1.021-1.025. Sensitive to copper. Sudden fluctuations in salinity parameters or specific gravity can severely affect the molting process and the overall long-term health of the organism.
Compatibility and Tankmates: 100% reef-safe. Excellent member of the clean-up crew. May attack small live snails if empty shells are not provided. Cohabitation with large predatory fish such as triggerfish, puffers, or large wrasses must be strictly avoided to prevent predation.
Aquarium Breeding: Releases microscopic zoea larvae into the water column; rearing them to settlement in aquariums is virtually impossible. During mating, the male temporarily holds the female until the fertilized eggs are securely attached beneath her abdomen for brooding.
Risks and Diseases: Extremely sensitive to copper treatments. Lack of spare shells causes stress and aggression toward snails. The administration of medications containing copper or formalin is highly lethal and must be strictly avoided in the display tank containing invertebrates.
