Cubaris sp. 'Platin Tung Song' — Platin Tung Song Isopod (Cubaris sp.)

Platin Tung Song Isopod (Cubaris sp.)

Cubaris sp. 'Platin Tung Song'

The Cubaris 'Platin Tung Song'. A huge (up to 0.7 inches) and wonderful design isopod originally from the Thai caves of Tung Song. Very similar to the Pak Chong but characterized by a very shiny graphite gray armored body, broken horizontally by two wide pink/peach bands (which blend head and rear) and yellowish skirts. Despite its opulent appearance and very high price, it is slightly more robust and easier to breed than the capricious Rubber Ducky if kept in deep calcareous soils.

Descrição da espécie

Geographical Origin and Habitat: Exclusive to the Tung Song region (Thailand), hidden under heavy blocks of crumbled karst limestone rock in asphyxiating monsoon forests.
Taxonomy and Genetics: Family Armadillidae. (Asian Banded Isopod). The label 'Platin' (Platinum) refers to the silvery-metallic shine of the gray central body. If the Panda King is black and white, the Platin Tung Song is divided into three huge blocks (Dirty coral pink head, enameled metallic graphite central body, pink/cream tail), with the characteristic blazes of an Asian jewel isopod.
Behavior and Habits: Robust banded crystals. Although they remain cryptic animals and lovers of total darkness, the Platin Tung Song demonstrate exceptional vigor. They are skilled diggers and form numerous underground colonies. Unlike the paralysis of other elite Cubaris, they quickly dash for cover if exposed to light and consume debris at a significantly higher speed.
Morphology: Total perfect enameled and very armored dome (Over 0.7 inches / 1.8 cm). Notable size (very similar to the Jupiter for stocky and wide build). The exoskeleton is a heavy ceramic: the anterior face and the first segments are pinkish-cream or pale peach, the central body is a dark platinum gray/very shiny steel, and the terminal plates repeat the cream pink of the head. Impeccable defensive conglobation.

Perfil de invertebrados terrestres

Dieta
Detritivore
This species thrives on a varied diet rich in decaying organic matter. They primarily consume high-quality leaf litter and soft rotting wood. Supplemental calcium and occasional vegetable scraps are essential for maintaining proper health and a strong exoskeleton.
Tamanho adulto
1 cm
Estilo de vida/Microhabitat
Terrestrial
They are robust terrestrial invertebrates that thrive in a well-maintained terrarium environment. A distinct moisture gradient is crucial to prevent both fatal dehydration and harmful fungal infections. They spend the vast majority of their time navigating the complex microhabitats of the damp forest floor.
Ciclo de atividades
Nocturnal
This species is primarily active during the night and the dimmer crepuscular hours. They typically remain hidden during the peak daylight hours to conserve vital moisture and avoid predators. Providing a natural day-night light cycle helps regulate their natural foraging and resting behaviors.
Socialidade
Gregarious
They are highly social isopods that naturally aggregate in large groups, particularly in the most humid and sheltered areas of their environment. This communal living style is beneficial for regulating colony humidity and creates the necessary social dynamics to stimulate consistent and successful reproduction.
Reprodução
Marsupial
Reproduction occurs consistently throughout the year when kept under optimal terrarium conditions. Females incubate their developing eggs within a specialized ventral brood pouch known as a marsupium. The young emerge as fully formed miniatures and require stable moisture to survive their initial delicate molts.
Venenoso
No
Tolerância de tratamento
Tolerant
Handling should be kept to an absolute minimum to avoid causing unnecessary stress. Their incredibly delicate bodies and limbs can be easily injured by improper or forceful grasping. If relocation is absolutely necessary, gently move them by scooping up the bark or leaf they are resting on.
Brumação
Não obrigatório
They generally do not require any brumation period when kept in a controlled captive environment. Maintaining stable and appropriately warm temperatures ensures continuous year-round activity and breeding success. It is important to avoid extreme cold to prevent potential and sudden colony crashes.
Muda
Regular
Molting occurs in two very distinct phases to allow the isopod continuous mobility during the process. Adequate environmental humidity is absolutely essential for them to successfully shed their old exoskeleton without complications. They will usually consume their freshly shed skin in order to rapidly reclaim lost calcium.
