Geographical Origin and Habitat: The Blue Bolt shrimp is an ornamental breed (Taiwan Bee mutation) selectively developed in captivity and does not exist in nature. It stems from the wild Caridina cantonensis from Southern China, retaining the natural preference for soft, fresh, and slightly acidic stream environments.
Taxonomy: Classified within the Atyidae family, this dwarf shrimp reaches an adult size of 2-2.5 cm. Morphologically identical to other Caridina species, its unique coloration arises from a combination of deep blue pigmentation in its body tissue beneath a semi-translucent white shell.
Social Behavior: Entirely peaceful, non-aggressive, and highly gregarious. Due to intense selective breeding, they are slightly slower and more timid than wild shrimp, spending most of their time quietly grazing for food on mosses and active substrate.
Coloration and Sexual Dimorphism: Features a striking cobalt blue color on the head (cephalothorax) that fades into an icy-white or pale blue on the abdomen. Mature females are larger and stouter than males, with deeper under-carapace plates to shield eggs during the incubation period.

Compatibility and Tankmates: Strongly recommended for species-only setups. If necessary, only house with small, peaceful snails (e.g. Ramshorn). Avoid housing with any fish, as even small species can stress the shrimp and prey upon newly born shrimplets.
Aquarium Breeding: Difficult due to the fragility of the strain. The female carries 15-20 eggs under her abdomen for 4-5 weeks. Newly hatched shrimplets are microscopic and extremely vulnerable; they require pristine, stable water conditions and abundant biofilm.
Risks and Diseases: High infant mortality rate due to parameter fluctuations. Vulnerable to thermal stress in summer and opportunistic bacterial infections. Copper, chlorine, and unapproved medications are instantly lethal to the entire colony.
