EcoTech Marine

EcoTech Marine began in 2001 when Tim Marks and Justin Lawyer started an aquarium-technology business; Patrick Clasen joined in 2002. The project later became a Lehigh University Integrated Product Development case in 2003, a date often used in timelines for the company's commercial creation. All three are documented as co-founders and developed the business in the Bethlehem, Pennsylvania area.

The first product was a kalkwasser reactor, followed by the VorTech pump with an external, magnetically coupled motor. The current catalogue includes Radion lighting, VorTech circulation pumps, Vectra return pumps, Versa peristaltic dosers, battery backup and accessories. The Mobius platform connects programming, updates and device coordination, making electronics and software as central to the product system as mechanical engineering.

EcoTech expanded its structure by combining ownership with AquaIllumination in 2014. It later entered the Aperture Pet & Life portfolio alongside Neptune Systems and Bulk Reef Supply while retaining its brand, product lines and Bethlehem support operation. Aperture describes EcoTech as a brand with more than twenty years of activity; the operating and policy entity remains EcoTech, LLC. Its development therefore runs from a university startup to a connected-hardware platform within a wider aquatic group.
