Positioned externally along the return line of an external canister filter, the unit functions as a dedicated exposure chamber for continuous or scheduled water clarification. The primary light source is a cold-cathode fluorescent lamp, an advanced technology chosen because it runs cooler than traditional ultraviolet lamps. The sealed outer body houses the internal exposure area through which shortwave radiation reaches suspended organisms as water flows through. By placing the unit inside the aquarium cabinet in a dry, protected environment, this design preserves the natural appearance of the display while performing its clarifying role.

This in-line clarifier is suitable for freshwater and marine aquarists managing water column cloudiness. It is especially helpful for controlling green water blooms caused by suspended single-celled algae and cloudy hazes resulting from free-floating bacteria. Planted tanks and display aquariums benefit from its external placement, which keeps the interior free from extra pumps and visible tubing. Because the ultraviolet light operates entirely within the closed chamber along the filter return line, the device acts solely on organisms floating in the water column, without disturbing beneficial bacterial colonies established on filter media inside the external canister or within the aquarium substrate.

The operating principle relies on the targeted emission of shortwave ultraviolet light produced by the cold-cathode fluorescent lamp. As water enters the internal chamber, it receives direct exposure that alters the reproductive capacity of suspended microalgae and free-swimming bacteria in the water column. The cold-cathode fluorescent lamp operates cooler than traditional ultraviolet lamps. An integrated timer module allows users to select intermittent operating periods or continuous operation. If electrical power is interrupted, the electronic control automatically resumes the selected operating duration from the moment power is restored, without tracking or synchronizing with the time of day.

The clarifier is compatible with freshwater and saltwater aquariums equipped with external canister filters. It is designed to connect to the manufacturer standard canister filter series and output hoses matching the internal diameter of the provided fittings. The internal geometry supports multidirectional flow, allowing water to pass through the housing in either direction without impacting performance. The unit is explicitly incompatible with high-output, large-capacity canister filter series that utilize wider hose diameters and higher flow volumes beyond this compact chamber. Connectors must be fastened firmly to the filter output line prior to starting water circulation.

Installation must be carried out inside the aquarium cabinet in a dry, protected, and ventilated location. The clarifier is not submersible and must never be installed above the aquarium water line. Mounting is completed by securing the housing with the two supplied mounting screws. Do not cut the hose. Connect the unit using the supplied ribbed hose, attaching it directly to the canister filter output line returning water to the aquarium. Unplug the filter and all electrical equipment before making hose connections. After connecting, prime and start the canister filter, verifying active water flow and checking that there are no leaks before plugging in the ultraviolet power supply.

The clarifier unit requires no cleaning and must not be cleaned with water or any other substance. The housing must not be opened, except for the documented procedure for lamp replacement. The cold-cathode fluorescent lamp can be replaced through the dedicated access area when its light output decreases over time. Always unplug the power adapter from the electrical outlet before performing maintenance or replacing the lamp. Never look directly into an illuminated lamp or expose bare skin to active radiation, as shortwave ultraviolet rays cause immediate damage to eyes and skin. Handle replacement components carefully according to official instructions.
