ReefWave 25

ReefWave 25 belongs to Red Sea's ReefWave family of submerged circulation pumps for marine aquariums. Its transverse rotor spreads water across a broader front than many conventional propeller pumps, while the sine-wave drive, vibration-damping mounts, and dual bearings are intended to support smooth operation. Red Sea states a maximum flow of 7,500 L/h, power consumption of 4–25 W, and pump dimensions of 23 × 7 × 4 cm for this model. Those are rated specifications, not a promise that every aquascape will receive identical circulation or remain free of sheltered low-flow areas.

It suits marine aquarists who want broad, programmable movement along the aquarium and are prepared to adjust intensity and direction around rockwork, substrate, and livestock. The manufacturer's recommended aquarium-length range is 45–120 cm; it is a starting point rather than a complete sizing rule. Pump position, obstructions, coral growth, and the requirements of individual animals can make gradual testing necessary. The unit does not measure coral welfare, and an automatic wave program cannot replace observation of tissue movement, polyp response, sediment transport, or excessive local turbulence.

Two side impellers operate around the central motor and can run forward or in reverse; the manual says forward flow is approximately three times stronger. Each cage can be angled separately to alter the path, but the official documentation does not claim independent full 360-degree rotation. The controller offers Regular flow plus Uniform, Step, Random, and Alternate waves, ReefBeat mode, and a local feed pause. ReefBeat can store customized waves and arrange a daily schedule. If a permanent network is unavailable, controller mode retains a smaller set of direct operating choices rather than the full cloud feature set.

Before purchase, confirm the exact model's glass limit, clearance, and replacement parts. ReefWave 25 is specified for glass up to 15 mm, measures 23 × 7 × 4 cm, and has a 3 m cable. Pump assembly R35228 and controller R35230 identify this variant; RW25 and RW45 power supplies or controllers must not be exchanged merely because connectors or housings look similar. Rated flow should be compared with the actual tank geometry, not a universal volume claim. A second pump may broaden coverage, but it needs its own tuning and does not automatically prove the absence of dead spots.

Install the pump where it remains reachable, with the cable uppermost during horizontal mounting and at least 5 cm below the surface to reduce air-vortex formation. The magnets are strong, so bring the halves together under control, protect fingers, and observe the glass limit. Fit the supplied snail guards, begin with cages aligned to the A and B reference marks, and raise intensity gradually. ReefWave ships in ReefBeat mode with no active wave schedule; connect it to the app or deliberately select controller mode before expecting it to run. Save and apply schedule changes, because unsaved changes are not implemented.

The manual recommends checking impellers and cages monthly or whenever deposits or reduced flow appear. Stop the pump, dismantle parts in the documented order, and clean under running water with a small brush. For persistent organic material it describes about one hour in a 10% household-bleach solution followed by thorough rinsing; for calcium deposits it allows only 1:1 diluted vinegar for a few minutes. Disconnect power before handling moving parts or opening the assembly. Maintain a drip loop, keep electrical connections dry, and preserve 30 cm between the strong pump magnets and medical implants.
