ReefLED G2 170
ReefLED G2 170 is a connected LED fixture in the ReefLED G2 family, built around a compact array, color-temperature control and ReefBeat operation. This profile keeps nominal specifications separate from the PAR results measured by Red Sea under its stated conditions.
Overview
ReefLED G2 170 belongs to the second generation of the ReefLED line. Red Sea groups the light sources in a compact array beneath a recessed lens, aiming for an even distribution and a controlled shimmer. Daylight is selected along a Kelvin scale that automatically blends the white and blue channels, while a separate channel provides moonlight.
The power figure describes this model’s array; dimensions, stated depth and PAR readings appear in the shared table. PAR results are not promises for every aquarium. They are manufacturer measurements taken in saltwater with a specified instrument and test geometry.
Who it is for
ReefLED G2 170 suits a marine aquarium where the keeper wants a daily schedule, color changes without balancing every individual channel and integration with the ReefBeat ecosystem. Choosing among the three models should be based mainly on the illuminated footprint, water depth, mounting position and coral layout.
The stated coverage is a starting point, not a substitute for checking the actual aquascape. Tall rockwork, shading corals, braces, reduced water clarity and adjacent fixtures can all alter the delivered pattern. When livestock is already accustomed to different lighting, the acclimation program and gradual observation are the sensible route.
How it works
ReefBeat controls color, intensity and moonlight. The selected color temperature sets the blend of ReefSpec Blue and white; dynamic power management keeps full power available across the stated part of the scale. A weekly program can include gradual sunrise and sunset, random clouds, a moon cycle, photo mode and temporary manual configurations.
The app’s exposure indicator helps interpret the load created by a schedule, but it cannot replace assessment in the real aquarium. PAR and biological outcome are not synonyms. This profile records the published figures as Red Sea test results and does not extrapolate them to other distances, tanks or settings.
Compatibility and accessories
ReefLED G2 170 is compatible with the arm, hanging kit and visor listed in the table. Arm compatibility includes exact ranges for aquarium width and glass thickness, which should be checked before purchase. On supported models, the pendant is a separate option and its trays depend on the number of fixtures.
Operation uses ReefBeat on a smartphone. A home network with Internet access enables the full cloud feature set and notifications; some functions are unavailable in local-network modes. Multiple fixtures can be grouped, but placement and spacing still need to match the aquarium geometry.
Installation
Secure the fixture above the aquarium with a compatible mounting system and follow the model-specific height in the table. When a third-party support is used, the unit must be protected against accidental release. Keep the top and sides unobstructed for heat dissipation, and keep the body, connector and power supply dry.
Place the power supply in a dry, ventilated location and use the supply provided with the product. Before start-up, check mount stability, cable routing and exposure to spray. The ambient-temperature limit is a manual safety boundary, not an operating target. Once powered, complete pairing and configuration in ReefBeat.
Maintenance
Red Sea recommends keeping ReefLED G2 170 clean, dry and free from salt deposits through regular checks; this profile does not invent a fixed calendar. Before work, disconnect the unit, let the lens cool and allow it to dry completely before reconnecting.
The top cover, heat sink and fan can be wiped with a damp cloth; the manual specifies isopropyl alcohol for a contaminated lens. The unit is not waterproof and must not be submerged. If the fan becomes mechanically noisy or stops, first remove dust and salt, and replace it only by following the illustrated manual procedure.
Strengths and limitations
Strengths include Kelvin-scale color control, scheduling tools and a coordinated set of mounting options. The compact array and lens simplify the optical source, while the app brings scheduling, acclimation and temporary manual control together.
Practical limitations are ReefBeat dependence for control, the need to select and size the mount correctly, and the fact that one PAR reading cannot describe a whole aquarium. Manufacturer maps depend on mounting height, test volume and saltwater conditions; coverage, shadows and livestock response should be assessed before increasing intensity.
