Thermocontrol 50W

EHEIM thermocontrol 50 belongs to the traditional thermocontrol line with an adjustable thermostat and recalibration ring. This profile preserves the useful core of the earlier dossier — rod heater, special glass, even heat output and double holder — while rebuilding identity and data from the exact EHEIM product and its manual. It is not an electronic thermocontrol e, a connected thermocontrol+ e, or an external Thermo filter. Keeping those groups separate prevents indicator behavior, controls and performance from being transferred between devices that share part of a commercial name but do not use the same regulation system.

It is intended for a freshwater or marine aquarium whose volume, heat loss and ambient temperature are consistent with the indicative range published for EHEIM thermocontrol 50. The manufacturer range is a selection reference, not a promise independent of the setting: open tanks, cold rooms, strong evaporation and weak circulation can change the real demand. The physical length must also fit the water column while respecting the immersion marks. Before purchase, check power, height, the available position and whether water can circulate around the glass rather than choosing from wattage or nominal aquarium volume alone.

The mechanical thermostat compares the selected temperature with the condition sensed near the body and powers the heating element when heat is required. A lamp indicates the heating phase, but it does not replace an independent water measurement. The special-glass jacket increases the radiating area and spreads heat along the body. The recalibration ring can realign the scale after the stabilized temperature has been compared for long enough with an accurate thermometer. This feature distinguishes the traditional line from thermocontrol e, which uses electronic control and does not call for the same correction procedure.

For spares and service, the item number of EHEIM thermocontrol 50 matters, not merely the wattage in its title. The double holder and suction cups appear in official documentation, but a similar-looking component does not prove compatibility with another generation. Published aquarium ranges also belong to each specific variant and must not be moved to an equal-power thermocontrol e: the two lines have different heights and adjustment ranges. ThermoPreset, thermocontrol+ e and Professionel Thermo filters remain separate families. If the label is unreadable or identity is uncertain, do not reconstruct the model from appearance alone.

The manual requires vertical installation inside the aquarium, with the heater secured below the water surface and the immersion limits observed. Inspect the glass, lead and plug before commissioning, and form a drip loop in the cable before the socket. After positioning the holder away from the heated area, select the temperature and regularly check the water with a separate instrument. Circulation must be able to reach the body, without forcing it against decorations. Never energize the appliance outside the water as a functional test, and do not treat dry-run protection as permission for an exposed startup.

Before reaching into the aquarium, moving the heater, removing parts or cleaning, disconnect all electrical appliances. After disconnection, leave the warm body in the water for the cooling period required by the manual. Clean it under running water without hard objects or aggressive agents; it is not dishwasher-safe. A damaged mains lead cannot be replaced and requires the unit to be removed from service. Dry-run protection reduces one hazard, but it does not authorize dry testing or replace observance of the minimum water level. Repairs belong with an authorized EHEIM service centre rather than an improvised opening of the sealed device.
