When plants are driven hard by intense lighting but starved of CO2, they shut down and leak organics, which directly triggers the most dreaded algae of all: Black Beard Algae (BBA).

Stabilize light, CO₂, temperature and water quality; remove only decaying tissue. Avoid concentrated corrections or several simultaneous changes.
Controlled correction
1. Pressurized CO2 Injection
Install a proper CO2 cylinder and regulator. Adjust the bubble rate until your in-tank Drop Checker turns a bright lime green during the photoperiod, ensuring a stable ~30 ppm of dissolved CO2.
2. Liquid Carbon and Dimming
If gas is not an option, you MUST dim your lights significantly (e.g., to 30%). Less light equals less demand for carbon. You can also spot-dose liquid glutaraldehydes (Excel, EasyCarbo) to locally melt the Black Beard Algae, though this is a bandage, not a true carbon replacement.
