API Melafix
Active Ingredient: Melaleuca alternifolia extract (1.0% Tea Tree Oil)
API Melafix is an all-natural, botanical antibacterial remedy made from the extract of the Melaleuca tree (Tea Tree). It promotes the rapid healing of open wounds, sores, and damaged fins without disrupting the biological filter or altering water chemistry. It forms a protective barrier over compromised tissue to prevent secondary opportunistic infections.
Indications
- Physical Injuries: Heals abrasions, open wounds, and body tears caused by handling, transport, or territorial aggression.
- Bacterial Symptoms: Effective in treating early stages of fin and tail rot, cloudy eyes, mouth fungus (often bacterial Columnaris), and red sores.
- Acclimation: Aids in preventing disease outbreaks when introducing new fish to an aquarium.
Dosage & Application
- Treatment of Disease or Wounds: Add 5 ml for every 40 liters (10 US gallons) of aquarium water. Repeat daily for 7 days. On the 8th day, perform a 25% water change. Filter carbon must be removed during treatment.
- Adding New Fish: Add 5 ml per 40 liters daily for 3 days to reduce stress and prevent infections.
Safety Notes
- Extremely safe for all freshwater and marine fish. Safe for live plants, corals, reef setups, and delicate invertebrates like shrimps, crabs, and snails.
- Does not discolor water, stain materials, or affect pH.
- Ensure high aeration during use: the organic oils can reduce gas exchange at the surface. If excessive foaming occurs, reduce the dose or perform a water change.
- Labyrinth fish (like Betta and Gourami) can sometimes be sensitive to concentrated surface oils; use with caution or at a slightly lower dosage.
Leaflet Extract
A natural botanical remedy. Safe for snails, shrimp, and plants. Foaming at the water surface is normal during treatment. Labyrinth fish may be sensitive to the oil film; ensure good aeration.
