Tropica
Philosophy
The philosophy of the Tropica method is centered on simplicity, accessibility, and safety, aiming to deliver excellent results for beginners and intermediates without the complexity of managing multiple chemical bottles. The system relies on just two liquid fertilizers designed to cover all nutritional needs based on the specific characteristics of the aquarium.
The framework is split into: 'Premium Nutrition' (green label), containing only potassium, magnesium, and trace elements (free of nitrogen and phosphorus), designed for tanks with a high fish load where fish waste and food naturally provide macros; and 'Specialised Nutrition' (orange label), a complete formula containing nitrogen and phosphorus for heavily planted tanks with low fish populations or inert substrates. This intuitive categorization prevents dosing errors, ensuring plants receive balanced nutrition without triggering algae-promoting imbalances.

| Zn | 0.01 |
| Cu | 0.005 |
| Mo | 0.001 |
Dosing frequency
2-3x/week or daily at reduced dose
Water change
25-50% weekly
CO2
Optional (recommended for demanding plants)
Light
Medium (30-60 PAR)
Pros
- Only two products
- Well balanced
- Clear documentation
- Great for beginners and intermediates
Cons
- Less flexible than modular approaches
- Proprietary products
- Not ideal for very demanding tanks
Common Errors
- •Using Specialised (green) in tanks with many fish and few plants, leading to uncontrolled nitrate spikes.
- •Miscounting pump-strokes on large water volumes.
Advanced Techniques
- •Mixing Premium (micros) and Specialised (macros+micros) on alternating days to exactly calibrate the nitrogen load without sacrificing quality microelements.
Ideal for
Intermediate planted tanks with medium-demand plants.
