Marineland

Marineland Aquarium Products grew from two histories. Robert Sherman acquired Aquarium Stock Company in Los Angeles in 1968; in 1970 his Aquaria, Inc. partnered with the oceanarium Marineland of the Pacific to develop filters, bubble wands and backgrounds for aquarium keepers.

The range later expanded into BIO-Wheel filtration, tanks and kits, LED lighting, pumps, heaters and components for freshwater and marine environments. The official history connects product development with Sherman’s experience in commercial lobster systems and the California oceanarium’s marine-biology knowledge.

Marineland is now a brand of Spectrum Brands Pet, LLC and publishes a contact address in Blacksburg, Virginia. The 1970 date marks creation of the Aquarium Products line rather than formation of the current owner; Robert Sherman and Marineland of the Pacific are therefore the brand-development partners, not founders of Spectrum. BIO-Wheel became one of the best-known later developments, adding a rotating surface intended to support biological filtration.
