Kessil

Kessil began as an internal project at DiCon Fiberoptics, a California company specializing in optical technology. Its official story attributes the initiative to three unnamed UC Berkeley graduates and places proposal and launch in 2009, while one DiCon page summarizes the division as “est. 2010”.

The distinguishing technology is Dense Matrix LED, which concentrates multiple diodes and spectra into one compact source. Kessil applies this architecture to reef, freshwater and planted aquariums as well as horticulture and research, with spectrum and intensity control plus mounting and management accessories.

Kessil is not a stand-alone company: it operates as a division and brand of DiCon Fiberoptics, Inc., headquartered in Richmond, California. Its technical heritage comes from the parent’s photonics and optical-component experience, while the 2009/2010 dates reflect the passage from project to established division. The point-source format is designed to produce shimmer and colour mixing distinct from conventional LED bars distributed along the tank.
