Geographical Origin and Habitat: Hygrophila pinnatifida is native to Western India, where it grows along the banks of fast-flowing forest streams and rivers. It can grow both emersed on wet rocks and completely submerged during seasonal flooding.
Taxonomy & Genetics: Belonging to the family Acanthaceae, genus Hygrophila. It stands out due to its deeply pinnatifid (lobed) leaf morphology, which is highly unusual for the genus Hygrophila and resembles a terrestrial fern.
