Species description
Geographical Origin and Habitat: Discovered in the mountain forests of the Guangxi region, China. Inhabits the canopy and dense shrub vegetation, blending perfectly with branches.
Taxonomy and Genetics: Family Phasmatidae. Recently described, representing an evolutionary peak in phasmid gigantism as a cryptic mimicry anti-predator strategy.
Behavior and Habits: Nocturnal and strictly arboreal. Remains motionless during the day mimicking a dry branch, moving slowly at night to feed.
Morphology: Reaches record-breaking total lengths of over 60 cm (24+ inches) including legs. The body is extremely elongated, thin, greenish-brown, with very long spiny legs.
Care, breeding and tankmates
Terrarium Setup: Vertical height is crucial. The enclosure must be at least 120 cm high and 60 cm wide. Use mesh or screen cages to ensure excellent ventilation and prevent stagnant air.
Lighting and Heating: Ideal temperature of 20-24°C (68-75°F). Does not require intense heating or UVB lighting; normal household temperatures are sufficient.
Humidity and Hydration: Maintain humidity around 60-70%. Mist the foliage and walls of the cage 2-3 times a week so they can drink water droplets.
Feeding and Supplementation: Strictly herbivorous. The diet consists of fresh branches of bramble (blackberry), oak, hazel, or rose. Keep stems in a covered jar of water to keep leaves fresh.
Compatibility: Peaceful and can be housed in small groups. Do not house with aggressive species. Avoid unnecessary handling due to their delicate limbs.
Health and Common Diseases: The primary risk is a bad molt (dysecdysis) caused by insufficient vertical space or low humidity, which can lead to limb loss or death.
