The Zachrysia provisoria (Cuban Brown Snail). It is a medium-sized tropical land snail (up to 1.2-1.6 inches) highly appreciated in floriculture and North American terrariums for its shiny and 'round' appearance. Originating from the island of Cuba, it is distinguished by a markedly globular (almost spherical) shell devoid of colored striations, which instead presents a wonderful walnut or chocolate-brown color, furrowed by microscopic raised ribbing that gives it a smooth and striped (ribbed) look to the touch. The mollusk's body is often an elegant pearly gray with two distinctive darker stripes along the head. Although peaceful and undemanding (prefers mild temperatures and high humidity like the Lissachatina fulica), it is sadly famous as an agricultural pest in Florida due to its insatiable appetite for broad-leaved ornamental plants (Ficus, Bougainvillea, Orchids), making it unsuitable for live 'planted' naturalistic terrariums, which it would raze to the ground in a few weeks.
